McDonald's

Runs fast-food restaurants with burgers and fries all over the world.

📖 Its story

In 1940, brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opened a restaurant in San Bernardino, California. They invented a super-fast kitchen, like an assembly line. Later, a milkshake-machine salesman named Ray Kroc got excited about the idea and took it all over the world.

💵 How it makes money

It earns money from the food it sells and, most of all, from the rent and fees its franchise owners pay it.

🤯 Fun fact

The Big Mac was invented in 1967 by Jim Delligatti, a McDonald's franchise owner in the Pittsburgh area.

👍 The good part

Its brand is one of the best known on the planet, and it has restaurants in more than 100 countries.

⚠️ The risk

It competes with many chains, and if food costs or wages go up, it earns less.
