Sandisk

Makes flash memory, like USB drives, memory cards and SSD drives.

📖 Its story

In 1988, Eli Harari, Sanjay Mehrotra and Jack Yuan started a company called SunDisk, which changed its name to SanDisk in 1995. Its flash memory keeps photos and files saved even when the device is turned off. In 2016 it was bought by Western Digital, and in February 2025 it became an independent company again.

💵 How it makes money

It sells flash memory and SSD drives to people, device makers and data centers.

🤯 Fun fact

In 1991 it made one of the first solid-state drives for IBM: it held only 20 MB and cost about 1,000 dollars.

👍 The good part

Everyone needs to save more photos, videos and data, especially with artificial intelligence.

⚠️ The risk

The price of memory goes up and down a lot, and that makes its profits change quite a bit.
